Parts of a Slot Machine
Below is a not a comprehensive list that are in slot machines but is a good start to understanding some of the parts that run slot machines. There will be different parts depending on the slot machine manufacturer and the type of slot machine. Towards the bottom there is also a definition of commonly used terms relating to slot machines. Slot Machine Parts
Candle - the light on the top of slot machines that blink for service or in reaction to the game as it runs. Most slot machine candles are a mix of either white, red, blue or yellow color combinations.
Ticket Printer – not all slot machines have printers but many do. The most common type of slot machine that has a ticket printer are the slot machines that do not accept real currency.
Coin Comparitors – are devices that ‘compares’ the coin inserted by the player to a real coin that is accepted by the slot machine. Different types of coin comparators use different types of voltage.
Counters - function exactly as they are named. The device counts the number of coins that is exchanged out of the slot machines.
Handle Mechanisms – are usually the parts of the slot machine that deal with player pulling the slot handle which interacts with the rest of the slot machine.
Coin Hopper - the part of the slot machine that holds the money (coins) and drops the coins into the coin tray, also known as the payout tray, when the player wins. Coin hoppers usually function with coins such as nickels, quarters, half dollars, and dollar coins.
Cash Boxes – hold the cash that is inserted into the slot machine by players.
Coin Tray – the part of the slot machine that sticks out at the bottom and catches coins. The coin tray is also commonly referred to as the Payout Tray.
Reels - the spinning portion of reel slot machines that usually have winning and losing symbols that depend on the game theme of the slot machine.
